This is a brief post to tell you that unfortunately I have to suspend my blog for a short time due to the dreadful cyclonic weather we have had here in the Hunter Valley, NSW, Australia. We have had some of the worst storms and flooding ever, resulting in several deaths, and many people have lost everything except the clothes they were wearing.
We had no water, electicity or heating for a week, and were stranded with very few supplies. Ten days after the first storms, about 10,000 homes are still without power, so I guess we are luckier than some. We survived on rationed rain water (collected in bowls), ginger beer, cold odd canned food, and dry breakfast cereal, crackers and biscuits.
I managed to get into town yesterday to buy some food (limited stock on supermarket shelves). I also bought a USB stick for my computer, as we have been informed that we will not have a phone or internet for about a month. However, because we live in a rural area, access to the internet via the USB is extremely SLOW !!!!!!!!!!...30 minutes to open my email account, and another 30 to open my blog, then several slow attempts to open 'New Post' to write this.
Apparently we are in for some more bad weather over the next few days (it has just started raining again). I hope it is not as wild as last week as we have just finished cleaning out several inches of mud in our carport, laundry, and music students' waiting room.
I am so looking forward to 'resuming normal service', and be able to look through all your lovely creations on your blogs, so until then.......

My goodness, the weeks are rushing by, aren't they. It's Friday again, and therefore
it is time for a new challenge at Winter Wonderland. This week our theme is
'IT'S A STITCH UP'
We want to see some stitching on your creation. It can be real or faux.
The fabulous prize this week is a $15 gift voucher from The Paper Shelter.
The Paper Shelter very generously gave the Icicles team several images to use.
This beautiful image is called Holy Night and it also came with this lovely
design paper. I thought the lacey border looked as if it was stitched, but I
decided to draw faux stitching around the mat.
I used crackle medium on the fence and while it was wet I sprinkled Rock
Candy Distress Glitter over it. I applied 2 thick layers of white acrylic paint
on the die-cut trees and also sprinkled the top layer with the glitter. Sadly
the beautiful sparkle does not show up. Likewise, the sparkle of the
liberally applied Star Dust Stickles to the printed trees, the snowflakes,
and the 'Noel' do not show, and in places it appears pink.
This sweet image just melts my heart, and was a joy to colour with
my trusty Promarkers.
There are lots of trees on the front of the card, so I decided to use this
gorgeous embossing folder which I bought very recently, inside my card.
I also used just half a tree die-cut, coloured with several green DIs, to
add interest to the panel on which I will write my personal message.

I hope you have all enjoyed, or are still enjoying, your Easter break.
John and I had a few things planned, including a trip to Sydney to visit
the Royal Easter Show. However, we have had to postpone that visit until
next year, because on Friday morning he was rushed to hospital with chest
pains. For several years he has had to take multiple medications for heart
problems, but has not had an actual crisis recently. Things are not as
bad as was first suspected, so he came home yesterday afternoon, albeit
very tired and feeling 'washed out'. He has slept for long periods, during
which I have 'watched him like a hawk'. I know I shouldn't be scared,
but I guess my reaction is a fairly normal one.
Onto happier things...last week yet another of my fellow-guides at the Fort
celebrated his birthday. He turned 78, and is also named John.
Before he retired, he used to be a motor mechanic, so the natural choice for
his card was one with cars on it. He is also a very neat and ordered man,
so my card for him reflects that attribute.
This close up gives slightly better detail of the embossed panel, and one
of my seemingly limitless supply of peel-off stickers.
I decorated both panels of the interior of the card. I LOVE that car
die-cut...it is one of a pair. The other car is at the end of this post.

It's time for a new challenge at Winter Wonderland, and this week it's
'LET IT SNOW'
The prize is a ₤10 parcel of goodies, provided by our generous sponsor
This card could not be more unlike my last card posted...in that it is
only slightly more than a CAS card.
I had intended to just put a few dots of snow around Snowy's head, but I added
some extra that made the design look unbalanced, so 'went the whole hog'.
This ever so cute image is Snowy, by Penny Black. Many people believe him
to no longer be available, but I managed to find him (new) recently on eBay.
This is the first time I have used him, but I think he is going to
become one of my favourite Christmas stamps.
As it always appears white, I usually use Star Dust Stickles to provide sparkle
on images, but I didn't think I had enough left for this card, so I used Kindyglitz
Crystallina, as I have a large bottle of that. Unfortunately, Crystallina tends to
take on different colours in different lights, and also on different cardstock.
Inside my card is extremely basic, and I did use up my remaining Star Dust
Stickles on the edges of the die-cut. Here you can clearly see the difference
between the Stickles and Kindyglitz.
